The HKN Experience

The presentation will introduce the emergence of laser technology to provide communication and navigation services to spacecraft throughout the solar system. Current research and development efforts to enhance system performance will be discussed, with particular attention given to physical and regulatory challenges and constraints, team dynamics, academic and industrial collaborations and the difficulty of introducing new technologies to space systems.
